Claudia Küchen, Head of Design and Marketing: “At SICAM 2019, we’ll focus on the far-reaching megatrend of urbanization, which was also the key theme at Interzum 2019. In the future, innovative surfaces will not only be found in private homes, but also in public areas, shaping the look of a vast array of different environments, which we call Places of Tomorrow. Another trend that is well and truly established is online furniture shopping, which has had a considerable impact on the sector and requires sound concepts. As such, together with our highlight decors and innovative surfaces, we are also showcasing solutions that are geared towards e-commerce, as well as new products that meet the abiding oak trend and satisfy the demand for linear wood-look designs that are easy to mix and match. To give just two examples of our new products, in Italy we’ll be presenting both a modern-looking oak decor and a vivid textile decor.”
Schattdecor will showcase trend statements from its “Urban Styles – Places of Tomorrow” concept at SICAM:
Coliving as a new form of housing
Coliving offers temporary living space and the corresponding services for people in location-independent professions. Stone, wood, and light decors – often over large surfaces – already impressed Interzum visitors back in May 2019. Decor highlights, such as Grey Caspio with its dark veins and trendy metallic effect, bold wood decors like Delano Oak or Istanbul Walnut, as well as Black Glow, will all be a part of these fully functional future living spaces.
Coworking – the changing face of the working world
In times in which urban space is scarce and expensive, coworking spaces are an ideal way to use temporary creative and complex working space. In this setting, light wood designs – like the Interzum highlight decor Frost Pine – are extremely popular, as they make the surfaces look extremely lifelike thanks to the combination of light and dark structures.
Public spaces – where life happens between activities
Public spaces are used to communicate, interact, and relax. In today’s mobile society, train stations, airports, and shopping malls need to be versatile and meet new needs. The Canyon Malibu Chestnut decor’s modern, large-scale wood structure can be combined particularly well with other materials and colors, making it perfect for public spaces.
E-commerce – furniture shopping goes online
Together with bricks-and-mortar retail, e-commerce is also growing in popularity, as people are now accustomed to making purchases online. When it comes to buying furniture, there is a particular need for well-defined combination options in order to create a visual sales appeal. One instance in which this has been achieved is the decor Tropea Oak, which is being presented for the first time. This features a highly delicate, modern-looking surface that can be combined in a number of different ways, including with another new decor, Prato. The latter, a textile decor, is characterized by its coarse texture, which is enhanced in production in terms of both look and feel by the use of press plate technology.
