The theme of this year’s Germany-wide Axia Award was sustainable enterprise. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, saw excellent examples of entrepreneurship among Germany’s small and medium-sized businesses in the Capitol Theater in Düsseldorf, where the Axia Award was presented for four categories: Strategy, Resources, Innovation, and People. We received the award for the last category.
From a total of thirty finalists, including well-known names like Stabilo, Edding, Cewe, Ritter Sport, and Develey, we emerged as the winners in the “People” category thanks to our excellent work in the field of human resources. “An intensive and distinguished human resources approach has proven a successful strategy for our hidden champion – a world leader in its market segment – to find the right employees and retain them in the long term. This business aims to cultivate a company culture that is fair, accountable, and honest. And these efforts in the HR department are yielding results. Employees stay with the company for an average of 14 years,” Holger Lösch, Deputy Managing Director of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), said as he presented the Award.
Mr. Lösch praised the guiding principles of Walter Schatt, who founded the company in 1985, according to which putting trust in people is rewarded with loyalty, creativity, and commitment. We still believe in this motto today. In addition to continuing professional development, we also think it is hugely important to offer our employees childcare options. Fairness and responsibility mark expectations and dealings with employees, no matter where they work, be it in China, Brazil, or at the headquarters in Bavaria. It is no surprise, then, that out of over 100 apprentices who have trained with us since 1994, three-quarters still work for us today.
We are no strangers to the Axia Award, which we also won in 2008 for the “Staying True to Values” category, accepted by Reiner Schulz at the time. Now, almost ten years later, Chairman of the Board of Schattdecor AG Roland Auer was the one to celebrate the latest award:
“This award signifies both a recognition of our achievements and a duty to continue our efforts. Being an employee-focused company has been a priority since our founding and played a big role in the leadership of our founder, Walter Schatt, and his successor, Reiner Schulz. And it will continue to be an important part of my leadership, too, so that Schattdecor remains an attractive employer for our employees and new applicants alike.”
