Schattdecor will be participating in the 2010 ZOW in Bad Salzuflen this coming February, showcasing new decors and an array of unusual foil products at booth A4 in hall 22.2. The highlights will include developments in its Smartfoil Real and Postfoil 3D work, plus decors custom-designed for these foil innovations. Schattdecor will also be taking the event as an opportunity to unveil its 2010 trend themes. Tying in with the nature-oriented trend themes presented by the decor paper printer at its successful Interzum showing in May, they take "The Nature Principle" as their title in reference to the greater sensitivity to nature displayed in interior design.
Schattdecor's 2010 trend themes: The Nature Principle
The influence of nature is become more and more noticeable in all areas of life. Nature is serving designers and architects as an object of emulation and source of inspiration, resulting in new design solutions in which a symbiosis with natural warm elements is marking the gradual retreat of cool minimalism.
At the same time a new trend is coming about in furniture design that overstates nature's form language to yield unexpected solutions.
This new style offers simplicity and a light feel, with carefully chosen furnishings, colours and surfaces adding up to a look of charming plainness. The main theme here is concentration on essentials.
This overall development is giving rise to certain styles which Schattdecor's Design team categorises as FOR ALL, FOR US and FOR ME:
FOR ALL stands for natural surfaces in contrast with cool, industrial materials.
FOR US signifies artisan-made objects combined with modern design objects that reproduce natural structures.
FOR ME represents the dialogue of natural-looking surfaces with artistic details.
FOR ALL
More and more, kitchens are no longer a place just for cooking and preparing food. Rather, they are the scene of impromptu gatherings of family and friends, and their design is a reflection of individuality and a particular lifestyle.
Kitchens are also a creative space used for reading as well as homework and arts and crafts with the children. The current trend underscores this workshop character, with worktops recalling workbenches and open shelving creating a sense of order and clarity.
Untreated, natural-looking materials serve as a contrast to smooth, industrial surfaces in this approach. Details inspired by nature introduce a touch of variety, relieving the cool modernity and streamlined forms that characterise the new kitchen. The result is a light new feel.
Woodgrain decors consist of oak with a rough-hewn or limed look, setting the tone in combination with stone, stainless steel, glass and innovative materials. Expanses of white, concrete and metal colours as well as wood surfaces in pale, greyish and mid-brown are typical of this style. A large table often leads over to the dining and living area in elegant fashion.
Canterbury Oak
This decor convincingly captures the look of floorboards in solid oak. Special attention has been paid to underscoring the natural character of the cathedrals and the crisp outlines of the pores. The result is a 3D effect that further emphasises the impression of great authenticity created by Canterbury Oak.
FOR US
The ideal living room is a place for relaxation and seclusion as well as coming together with friends and guests. The furniture, entertainment electronics, books and decorations form a harmonious whole thanks to the interplay of differing materials and shapes. This new style is characterised by a preponderance of wood and the presence of natural materials such as raffia and wool.
Furniture items with a solid, artisan-crafted look also play a role, characterised by a new form language that is open and angular in feel. Chairs display curved, filigree shapes that recall Scandinavian designs, and classical wall units have disappeared, replaced by varied, individualistic solutions.
Decors come in woodgrains ranging from pale conifers through birch, maple, ash and beech to natural oak, creating a warm and homely feel. Accessories present themselves in blacks and warm greys, sand-coloured hues, violet with a greyish tinge and pastel tones.
Arusha Wenge
This new decor is characterised by an attractive 3D look that takes its inspiration from wire-brushed hardwood. The narrow planking features finely-grained areas in alternation with decorative flowered sections.
FOR ME
The prevailing elegant and luxurious style of bedroom and bathroom areas is gaining a more individual note. A touch of the artistic can be seen in unusual surfaces and unique-looking objects that create a hand-made impression. This fine and subtle style proves that simple objects full of character can contribute to a pleasant atmosphere if chosen with care. Trends are moving towards creativity and a more classical look and away from opulent chic, resulting in a personal and very individual style.
The new furniture idiom is marked by simple elegance. The woodgrain decors that go with this mood consist of upmarket tropical hardwoods in medium to dark brown hues, ideally offset with accessories in bronze, gold and olive.
Montreux Walnut
Striking growth rings featuring side-cut figures and subtle streaking add interest to the predominantly straight-grained composition of this typical French walnut.
