18.02.2009 Positive Surfaces Presentations as Schattdecor continues progress on new plant in St. Louis, MO
|
At Surfaces 2009 in Las Vegas, much talk was focused on the current state of the economy. The team from Schattdecor in North America put together a presentation that was designed to help customers differentiate themselves, especially during difficult times. Designer Mark Smith’s presentation this year revolved around the ever-changing American Family and his Family of Colors theme from IWF 2008. He showed that both of these are influenced by a person’s surroundings and their travels. These influences could be anything from the beach to the countryside, the big city or an exotic vacation. In his presentation Mark tied these influential settings to the design and flooring choices a family makes for their home. Schattdecor presented 34 new flooring decors in 16 different colorways to over 30 customers in their hospitality suite in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Decors that were found to be popular were Accent Oak, Harmony Walnut, Ash Elegance and Jarrah Select. Mark Smith also used his presentation as an opportunity to survey customer opinions on real wood he had purchased for potential Schattdecor design developments. A few of the real woods that received high praise were Sapeli, Bastogne Walnut, Wandoo and Red Birch. Amidst all the preparation for Surfaces, the Schattdecor team in North America is still seeing progress on the construction of their new production facility for the US. According to Tom Drazen, things are moving along on schedule for the projected start of operations in 2010. “At this point it only looks like we are moving dirt. But in reality we have to provide a firm foundation for the tilt up concrete walls and our Rotodecor printing press. This is done using cast piles driven into the ground. On top of that we will have a pad poured for each station of four printing machines, which are possible for the future. There is a lot of ground preparation to be done before we pour the actual slab. And the pouring will have to wait until the threat of freezing weather is over.” Schattdecor recently opened a production facility in Chekhov, Russia in October 2008. A production plant in Turkey is scheduled to open in 2009 and the new US plant should start operations in 2010. With these three new facilities Schattdecor will have eleven total for the production of printed decor paper and finish foil. Including the works operated by its three subsidiaries Arcolor, Rotodecor and Kingdecor, Schattdecor will thus have 14 production locations all over the world by the end of 2010.
