The motto of this year's Arena Design show was sustainable design, a highly topical theme that was intensely discussed at the event's lectures and workshops. Visitors were also able to experience it up close in an exhibition of products nominated for the competition finals.

Reflecting the contest's aim to commend the best designs from companies working in various branches, the winners in this year's round read like an international who's who of the design scene:
1.    Kettal for Rocking Chair designed by Patricia Urquiola
2.     GROHE for the BLUE Chilled and Sparkling system
3.    Klafs for the VITRIUM sauna
4.    Solaris Bus and Coach for the TRAMINO tram
5.    Schattdecor for the 'PAINT SPLATTER' decor

The jury, which was made up of an interdisciplinary team of noted design experts, was chaired by the French designer Francois Azambourg and the well-known Polish designer Janusz Kaniewski.

As stated in the jury's notes, 'Paint Splatter' was primarily chosen for distinction "as it perfectly demonstrates that an industrial item can have the character of a unique product. Devised for use in flooring and taking its inspiration from an artist's studio, the decor interprets splatters and streaks of paint on a coarse paper surface, underscoring the used and artistic character of the material in consummate fashion".

Claudia Küchen, Head of Design at Schattdecor, proudly accepted the trophy. As the second such award to be gained by Schattdecor at this event, it underscores yet again the company's globally-leading design and trend expertise.
