1985
Schattdecor is founded by Walter Schatt in Ziegelberg, near Rosenheim, Germany.
1989
A new factory building is opened in Thansau, near Rosenheim.
1993
In the first step in Schattdecor's foreign expansion, the joint venture Maltaprint is founded in Poland for the production of decor paper.
1995
Entry into the Italian market. The decor printing company Cartiere Sottrici Binda in Milan is acquired.
1997
The new production facility in Rosate (Italy) takes up work.
1998
Schattdecor gains a stake in Arcolor, a manufacturer of printing inks based in Waldstatt, Switzerland.
1999
Schattdecor acquires all the shares in Maltaprint, renames it Schattdecor and builds it new premises in Tarnowo Podgorne, Poland.
A majority interest in the Polish foil manufacturer Prismadecor in Głuchołazy is acquired.
Establishment of Schattdecor do Brasil in Curitiba.
2000
In response to the growing significance of the Russian market, Schattdecor Russia is established in Schatura (about 140 km south-east of Moscow).
2001
Schattdecor China in Shanghai is established.
2002
Foundation of the joint venture Penzadecor in Penza, Russia, for the production of decor paper.
A new production facility is opened in Pudong, Shanghai.
Foundation of the machine building subsidiary Rotodecor in Bad Salzuflen, Germany.
2003
The foil manufacturer Pertech is aquired in Embu, Brazil.
2004
The Chinese market is developing rapidly. In a swift strategic response, Schattdecor sets up a joint venture for decor paper production with a Chinese partner, meaning that it now produces all the resources required to supply the chinese market with printed decor paper.
2005
Start of construction work on a new head office and logistics centre in Thansau.
Expansion of production capacity in Shanghai.
Construction of a new production building and installation of a base paper machine in Quzhou.
Plans are drawn up for the construction of a new decor printing plant in Chekhov (near Moscow), and the respective plot is bought at the end of the year.
2006
In March, Schattdecor moves into its new headquarters complex in Thansau.
Progress continues to be made on the construction of a new entrance building, an underground staff parking deck, a logistics building and a new canteen.
In April, the new decor printing plant is opened in São José dos Pinhais, Brazil.
In July the foundation stone for a decor printing plant is laid in Chekhov, near Moscow.
In September, the 65th anniversary of Schattdecor's founder Walter Schatt is celebrated with a party that also marks completion of the building project in Thansau, where a new entrance building, underground parking deck and logistics building have been taken into operation.
October sees the inauguration of Kingdecor, Schattdecor's joint venture in Quzhou for the production of base paper for the Chinese market.
2007
The employees and management are delighted with the results for 2006, when 1.100 employees all over the world generated consolidated sales in excess of EUR 420 million with the production of over 103.000 metric tons of printed decor paper and more than 200 million sqm of melamine film and finish foil.
In Thansau, Schattoria - the new staff and guest restaurant - and the landscaping are completed.
The lab presses are relocated to the new customer centre in Thansau, thus completing the alteration measures in the location's production plants.
Schattdecor´s successful showing at the 2007 Interzum is followed by inauguration of the new building complex in Thansau on May 14. The company provides the 400 and more invited guests a cultural highlight in the form of the premiere of a chamber opera performance of Don Giovanni.
2008
The year begins with the merging of the subsidiaries Prismadecor (Poland) and Penzadecor (Russia) with the respective Schattdecor firms in these countries.
In March, Schattdecor announces two new investment projects: a new decor paper plant in Turkey (due to start production in 2010) and one in the USA (scheduled to take up production in 2011).
A third impregnation line is taken into operation at the plant in Schatura, Russia.
Wanda Zyburska, Managing Director of Schattdecor Poland for many years, enters well-deserved retirement.
An inauguration ceremony is held in Schattdecor's second Polish production facility in Glucholazy to celebrate completion of the new buildings and the alteration work at the location.
In early August, the new plant in Chekhov, Russia, produces its first reel of printed decor paper.
At the same time the foundation stone is laid for the new plant in St. Louis, MO.
The new plant in Chekhov is inaugurated towards the end of October.
As the year closes, Ettore Ferrari, the longstanding Managing Director of Schattdecor Italy, retires.
At the end of 2008, Schattdecor's management and staff are able to look back on a year in which the company did well despite a deteriorating market situation.
2009
The year begins with the appointment of Harald Purainer as Chief Financial Officer and Kurt Mack as Chief Production and Logistics Officer. Together with Chief Technical Officer Roland Heeger and CEO Reiner Schulz they guide the company through a profound global recession.
In a demonstration of dependability in difficult times, the company makes a powerful showing at the Interzum show in Cologne, where it also unveils digital printing studies as an outlook on the future. Schattdecor renews its commitment to Bavaria's Environmental Pact. In April it passes 1 million tonnes in decor paper production. The printing plant in Penza, Russia, is closed at the end of September, the construction projects in Turkey and the USA are postponed, and the new Kingdecor plant in Quzhou, China, starts producing decor base paper on a new papermaking line in October. Towards the end of the year, Schattdecor takes a new laser engraving unit into operation in Thansau and expands foil production at its plant in Glucholazy, Poland, in response to the product's growing importance on global markets. In December, the Supervisory Board gives the go-ahead for the start of construction measures in the USA and Turkey. Effective 31.12.2009, Schattdecor sells a majority of the shares in its wholly-owned machine building subsidiary Rotodecor GmbH, thus opening up new prospects for the company.
2010
At the beginning of the year, it becomes apparent that Schattdecor has emerged from the crisis in good shape. On 26 April 2010, the company celebrates its 25 anniversary. In April, Schattdecor gains a new agent in Greece, plus in May it receives a design award for its digital-print decor paper study "Giant Wood" from the hands of internationally renowned designer Karim Rashid.
Work is coming along well on construction measures in the USA and Turkey. In July, the Bavarian Order of Merit is bestowed on company founder Walter Schatt by Horst Seehofer, Minister President of Bavaria.
The Russian subsidiary OOO Schattdecor celebrates its 10th anniversary in October.
On 3 December, the newly-completed Schattdecor plant in the Gebze plant near Istanbul, Turkey, prints its first reel of decor paper. At the year-end party in Thansau, CEO Reiner Schulz announces that the findings of the location's first employee opinion survey reveal top results in terms of employee satisfaction, but also room for improvement.
The year ends with the retirement of longstanding Chief Sales Executive Hartwig Dickten, the welcoming of new Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Roland Auer, and record consolidated sales of €440 million.
2011
Schattdecor starts the year by taking a new lacquer topcoating line into operation at its plant in Głuchołazy/Poland, boosting its capacity for production of pre-impregnated finish foil to the largest in the world. The newly-built plant in St. Louis, MO (U.S.A) also goes into operation at the beginning of the year, and resin impregnation facilities in Tyumen, Russia, are acquired in the spring.
The digitalVisions by Schattdecor collection of digital-print decors is unveiled at the Euroshop in Düsseldorf and the Interzum in Cologne.
Schattdecor's showing at the Interzum is once again a great success, with a particular highlight being the premiere of 3D_Lab by Schattdecor, an innovative new means of decor presentation. This is followed later on by inauguration of the newly-built plants in Istanbul, Turkey, and St. Louis, MO, U.S.A., and by successful participation in the ZOW Istanbul, Italy's SICAM Pordenone and the Mebel Exhibition in Moscow in the autumn.
